Cooperation against all predictions

چکیده
In Binary Threshold Public Good (BTPG) games, n players have binary choices: cooperation or non-cooperation. If at least k cooperate, a public good is produced. The case = the Stag Hunt game with two pure strategy equilibria E1 (all cooperate) and E0 (no player cooperates). four rather diverse examples of four-player three prominent concepts equilibrium selection favor E0. Experiments, however, result in frequencies between 70.3% 99.7%. Also for < n, selected clearly differ from experimental behavior. We interpret our observations by suggesting concept Behavioral Equilibrium Selection.

All - Against - All Sequence
In this paper we present an algorithm which attempts to align pairs of subsequences from a database of DNA sequences. The algorithm simulates the classical dynamic programming alignment algorithm over a digital index of the database. The running time of the algorithm is subquadratic on average with respect to the database size. A similar algorithm solves the approximate string matching problem ...
متن کاملInternational Cooperation Against Corruption
Virtually all forms of corruption are proscribed by virtually all countries. Why, then, don’t countries optimally reduce corruption? If countries have trouble fighting corruption, it may be because of insufficient will or insufficient local capacities of several kinds. These capacities include having proper strategies and structures (including incentive structures) that would optimally inhibit ...
متن کاملCooperation in an All-RNA Network
The discovery of catalytic RNA molecules (ribozymes) capable of catalyzing a significant number of diverse chemical reactions suggests that an RNA world preceded the DNA-RNA-Protein world we know today. The self-replication of RNA molecules would be the central process of the RNA world. However, a single selfreplicating RNA would not sustain information on its own if it surpassed the “error thre...
متن کاملThe Adaptationist Theory of Cooperation in Groups: Evolutionary Predictions for Organizational Cooperation
Managers could more effectively promote cooperation within their organizations if they had greater understanding of how evolution designed people to cooperate. Here we present a theory of group cooperation – the Adaptationist Theory of Cooperation in Groups (ATCG) – that is primarily an effort to pull together the scattered findings of a large number of evolution-minded researchers, and to inte...
متن کاملAgainst All Reason
In Manufacturing Consent: The Political Economy of the Mass Media, Noam Chomsky and I put forward a "propaganda model" as a framework for analysing and understanding how the mainstream U.S. media work and why they perform as they do (Herman and Chomsky 1988). We had long been impressed with the regularity with which the media operate on the basis of a set of ideological premises, depend heavily...
